What would an Otaku do in Hawaii? :D

Postby polence » Mon Jul 09, 2012 3:31 pm

Hello^_^ I'm Jerry Polence, a Filipina cosplayer based in Seattle. Recently it has come to my knowledge that my flight will have a 24hr layover in Honolulu on August 28. I was wondering what otaku places or activities should I do while in the island?

I'm the kind of person who will prolly not leave the airport unless someone recommends stuff for me to do. So far, all I have is getting Yam donuts from Kamehameha. :P

Any suggestions, otaku related or not will be appreciated. ^_^ Thank you so much everyone! ^_^

There's really no otaku daily things to do on the island. But if you're craving for some Japanese food you could check out Shirokiya at Ala Moana Shopping Center. They have Takoyaki, Ramen, Sushi, Soba and Udon Noodles, a Crepe stand etc. They also have a used Japanese book store on the first floor. Down the road from Ala Moana Shopping center is a grocery store called Don Quiote that has Japanese snacks, tea, make up etc.

If you're looking for anime goods there is Toys N Joys but both locations are kind of far from Ala Moana. If you're interested in Hawaii's Japanese History there is The Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii.
2014:
Natsuki OZ version (Summer Wars)
Vanellope Von Schweetz (Wreck It Ralph)

possibly:
Eevee gijinka ver. (pokemon)

Late post is late. Oh well.

Everything the above poster said rings true, provided you're willing to spend money on some method by with which to head into town. Other than that, you might visit the Dole Cannery, or Diamond Head, or the beach by Ala Moana as typical tourist spots. I do suggest you try out Curry House while you're there. Regardless, I STRONGLY suggest you not spend 24 hrs stuck in HNL, it's definitely the most boring airport I've been to.

Totally random side note: I took your picture at sakura-con this year. =P

KK09 - Nnoitra
AX and S-con '10 - both of the above
