Volunteering for Kawaii Kon 2012

Postby Toki » Sat May 21, 2011 9:38 am

Volunteer sign-ups for Kawaii Kon 2012 are now closed!

Some basic rules are that we require our volunteers to attend two staff meetings throughout the year, as well as a two mandatory meetings that are held on the Thursday immediately before the convention and immediately following closing ceremonies on Sunday. We also ask that each volunteer puts in 15 hours of their time throughout the weekend in order to receive the volunteer benefits, such as a free pass to the convention.

If you're not sure if you'd like to volunteer or not, we do hold meetings throughout the year (as mentioned before) that you are more than welcome to attend. At these meetings, you can talk to myself as well as any of the other department directors. While we do have a listing of department descriptions, attending a meeting will help you to get a better idea of what department you'd feel comfortable in and make it easier for you to choose which department you'd like to be a volunteer for. Please note that you must be 15 years old at the time of the convention in order to volunteer. For those of you that meet that age requirement, but are under 18 at the time of the convention, we ask that you fill out the parental consent form, which can be found here.

If there are any questions, feel free to email me at staffing@kawaii-kon.org or PM me through the Kawaii Kon message board. If not, you are always welcome to see me at any of the volunteer meetings.

We look forward to working with you in 2012!

I'd love to just be able to help out or loan out gaming equipment without having to actually commit the amount of hours you guys have for your volunteers. I mean, I already bought my pass for next year so it's not like I need the free pass that comes with the volunteering gig.
Got a job or anything like that for an average-joe con-goer like myself?

I don't think the video gaming department accepts loaned gaming equipment, but you can talk to our video gaming director (Mospp here on the boards) and see if there's anything he can do for you.

Dear Awesome People,

I realize that after our meetings everyone is in a rush to leave and get on with their day and the different factions that make Kawaii Kon possible don't mingle. I was hoping that we could do something to promote inter-group relations. For example: Security and Events. Granted, this is something that the directors and other higher-ups tend to take care of, however, I would enjoy jumping on this train and help smooth out any and all wrinkles. This is my first time on the forums, so please bare with me and any faux pas that follow in my wake. The best way to contact me is via e-mail, hopefully, viewable on my profile. If you are unable to get in contact with me, look for "Das" at this October's meeting. If anyone needs help with anything, not just Kawaii Kon Security related, please let me know.
Sincerely,

Das

As a volunteer you get the free pass, access to some rooms/events ahead of time, no waiting in the dealers room line, and access to the dead dog party after the kon where we provide you with food, lots of free stuff, and a place to relax and hang out with your fellow volunteers. There's also a greater chance for you to interact with the guests depending on what department you choose.

Is it possible to bring a couple guests in for free since me and my sister are staffing?

No. Unfortunately, you and your sister staffing makes only you two eligible for yourselves to have passes.

To add to this.... In exchange we ask that you work a minimum number of hours over the course of the weekend.
