Poor cast is purely subjective. Some funi titles have featured an army of great voice actors and actresses, so how does one determine "a great" cast? Does funi have to run who they choose to voice who by the fans before they commit to dubbing the project?

As much as I think the fans are passionate about the series they love, I think its ludicrous to demand that a company cast voice actors/actresses that the fans feel should be right for the roles? What if the role calls upon an unknown actor/actress that had a few lines in another anime series to be a break out role for him/herself?

And what about the Japanese owners of the title. They may have a say in who voices who for the roles, that may not be first accepted by the fans.


Hey, iM a fan of both subs and dubs (dubs I can listen to if, im busy with chores or sewing up my next cosplay costume), but we are not talking about the early years of anime dubbing (now that's for another topic)

hmm Hetalia..the easy solution is when you own the DVD set, just have the set-up be Japanese with English subtitles..and skip the whole- dub...so nothing to fuss over people... thats what so great about U.S. released anime titles you can count on them giving you opitions

My Japanese is alright for the most part (as in, watching APH anyway /fails at technical shiz), but I know a lot of the scenes by heart from fan translations of the webcomic and whatnot.

I'm surprised with FUNi choosing to license Blacksmith though...while I like it (...for Luke...and LukexCecily), it's pretty generic and not popular in the American fandom or the Japanese fandom. :/

I think what matters most is not the voice actor, but the voice directors. You can get big name voice-actors, yet the dubbing can be absolutely terrible. For example, I personally think Tamaki sounded terrible in the dub, and he was voiced by the popular Vic Mignogna. Now look at Persona 4 (Although it's a video gam. I can't think of many dubbed anime). It has one of the best English voice acting I've ever heard in a J-RPG that tops most other big name titles with popular voice actors in them. Same for Valkyria Chronicles.

will funimation go the direction of tokyopoop? take a good anime seires and edit and adlib certain aspects? for example tokyopoop's version of initial D all the cars suddenly have these massive sound systems yet i see no woofers or amps. when theyre racing, theyre none existent sounds are pumping full blast and yet somehow can concetrate with all that crap going on inside, hear themselves talk and still manage to pull a drift.

anothe example is harmony gold and them tearing 3 good anime separate series, slapping them together and still calling it an anime series. with a new scripts a storyline and thinking macross, southern cross and gensis climber mospeda are related to each others. ugh

Funimation did well with the series that I've seen and the parts that I've seen, so I assume they will do a decent job with Hetalia. I haven't watched any of their series in entirety yet though.

They did do some anime series quite well. I mean some anime series I prefer it in dub rather than sub just because I think it was funnier. But they DO know that Hetalia has an ENORMOUS fan following here in the states. They'd be wise as to not mess this up~

Well, FUNimation is huge. They can't suck all the time (or else they'd be out of business). :[ Sometimes I worry about bias'd casting, though. [IE. Ouran. They say it was out of pure talent, but... I do wonder.]

...I like Funi...they've done pretty good on most anime that I heard (it's not much...and they were mainly from the early years >_<;;;)...still, I'll assume they won't mess it up. My main worry is if they totally screw up England and America...I'll never forgive them if they do...

Funimation has never seriously let me down before and am looking forward to how they'll dub the characters: as close as possible to their Japanese voices or give them stereotypical accents. I'm assuming that is everyone's main concern?

Accents would be cool...But I just hope it isn't really horrible negative sterotypical accents...And nobody sounds...well...stupid or illiterate.
