Kawaii Kon

Honestly, I think I do more silly stuff being a adult more then when I was younger. Maturity and having fun have very little to do with each other. *shrug* At any rate, college is much more freeing thus letting you express yourself more, like randomly showing up the class in a lolita and a blue wig... That was a very interesting day at KCC... lol I'll be heading to Manoa to finish up my BA next fall though, don't know if I could pull a stunt like that there.

I must say though, taxes is very important to cosplay. A lump of money is always great, well unless you under pay your taxes and owe the government money. Also, cosplay does help with budgeting skills. I typically make a spreedsheet for my cosplays with exactly how much to spend where to get item a and where to get it. Not to mention the spreedsheet with inventory of my cosplay items, though I do lose some items... like gloves and fake cigs. (I totally blame my dog's for that though...) From there, I've done that sort of thing to my normal finances to see where I can save money and etc. >< or maybe I'm just a huge dork for doing that? lol

As for where I've been, I've been ah...paying for my internet bills. *sweatdrop* Lame I know but sometimes the unexpected happens. I have been working on my cosplay stuff. I did find my Gil hat, it still doesn't fit my head so the inaccurate hat will have to do for Kon.

Psh, obviously you have not seen me at Manoa. Went to class in full Undertaker once. Frequently wear random colored wigs. And occasionally just for fun my Love Me uniform in all it's horribly pink glory! They don't care. I cosplay around all the time. Shizuo, Joker, wore Mephisto a week or two ago.

Well, only time I've been to Manoa is to get lost in the library trying to find books or trying to find the building to turn in papers. lol But awesome XD haha~ will you be attending next fall? lol maybe I'll run into you!~ Though not sure how my schedule is going to look, I just need to take my 300 and above's at Manoa.

Next fall yes, after that I'm not sure. I'm a senior this year but I transfered in so the change made me a little short on credits so can't graduate on time. Next fall I should be done so it is just a matter of what in the world I'm going to do in the spring. I'm going to be applying for graduate schools, but they don't start accepting people till fall fas as I can tell. So I'll have a semester of trying to figure out what to do with myself. Looking like try to study abroad or just getting a job and getting some money. Most likely won't be staying in Hawaii though so this is looking to be my last Kawaii Kon.

sure can. I'm not doing a skit this year. I don't even think i'll be doing a new cosplay. I have like ZERO time for making a cosplay this year. I am swamped with school, and the other stuff at con this year. I still have to make more artz for da table, plus I need to work on the panel. I am also doing the 2 vids this year. So I don't have time to rehearse a dance skit. we are gonna hold onto it for next year.

Yay! When you move back to the mainland we have to meet up sometime, seriously. Maybe by then we'll be able to have made Jack and Oz's fancy black and white suits. XD

Yeah I keep racking my brain but other than wasting a semester's worth of tuition to put off graduating even longer I don't think there will be a 2013 for me. Hawaii is just too expensive. Maybe I could spend a semester living somewhere cheaper and just working but still, so expensive.

XD Yeah we just finished recording earlier tonight and it was hectic. The script I wrote last semester and it only got to its final form this semester cause it kept being too long. Now we just have to practice moving to the audio. Shouldn't be too hard though, not compared to last year where I had to be the rope in tug of war, kicked to the floor, and various other difficulties for poor Oz.

It was written by me and preformed by my friends from Manoa. This year the group is slightly different. Me, Gil, and Vincent are still in it but Alice, Glenn, and Cheshire won't be. We have one other group member though who wasn't a part of things last year.

Far as I know it is Showcase Saturday, Theater Sunday. (There was some talk of putting them on the same day but nothing seemed to come of it.) Course we won't really know what happens when until the schedule comes out *glares at WolfGirl* to the rest of the public, stupid panelists and their getting advanced copies of the schedule. XD But that's how it was last year. If they do move things it will probably be putting theater on Saturday since it is the more popular day. Both events though are pretty sparse in participants and go pretty fast. They didn't use up all their alloted time last year, especially theater. We were out of there sooo fast. Partly because the announcer didn't read anyone's introductions.

There is the hallway cosplay competition, but I don't know the details of it. But yeah the official cosplay showcase has judging Saturday morning and the actual event Saturday afternoon. Cosplay Theater, which is skits, is Sunday but to get into it you have to be at the convention center Thursday for the auditions. Least that's how it was last year.

I was going to take some pictures to post it today but I got home late so the sun was already going down! But I figured out how I'm going to mkae my make-up so I'm glad I did something. I'll be taking pictures (for real this time) on Sunday. But I'm not really sure if I should post that since it's been canceled like 3 times already! Lol. Oh and I saw your pictures on Deviant and thought they were amazing! Thought I should tell you that.

This is a question for everyone. Who here listens to K-Pop? I just have to know. (:

Aw thanks! The credit entirely goes to WolfGirl, she took the ones of me. (The ones of my friend are the ones I took, the difference is quite clear to see in photo quality.)

I listen to a little K-pop, but compared to serious K-pop fans I know I only am aware of the tip of the iceburg. I have one person I know who is utterly obsessed with it and the amount she knows blows my mind. But yeah I'm at least aware of it and the big names. I love ShinEE and Super Junior, and all of the bands I see have amazing choreography. Makes me want to take the time to learn a dance then preform it in costume or something. XD Especially Ring Ding Dong...

I hope your photo taking happens and goes well! I can't wait to see pictures!

Sunday, afterish the cosplay theater (waiting to hear the schedule from Kawaii Kon before we set the time) and at... How about the Lion Fountain Garden on the third floor? It's a little apart from the rest of the con so no one would end up walking through the shoot and the architecture isn't bad for Pandora Hearts. WolfGirl got this shot there last year:

An idea. Other nice places include the pond up on the roof and the waterfall on the first floor. The stairway in front of the canal is a very popular choice for photoshoots so depending on the time we end up picking may already be in use. Though if we want a lot of people to see us doing our cosplay thing then having it on either the third or fourth floor lobby would be best.

And for the photo shoot, it's pretty much what Betwixt said. It's after the cosplay theater on Sunday. But since we don't have the schedule we can't really make anything official..sadly.

No that's on the roof, there is a garden pond/steam thing up there. It is also really nice, but there may be a tad more people to contend with. Still shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Main reason I didn't suggest it is because the plantation is all rather tropical and Pandora Hearts happens in a temperate zone. Makes it hard to ever get really good shots since the tropical plant life is almost everywhere though so I've learned not to be too picky.

Just noticed that post, actually Kawaii Kon is pretty cheap as far as just admission. (Add hotels and transportation I could see it getting pricey.) Otakon, the largest and oldest anime convention on the East coast and second largest in the country only losing to AX which is a four day multi-genre convention, charges $70 for pre-registration, $80 at the door. (Bumped the price up from last year when it was $65.) So yeah just $40 isn't too bad and there were a lot of opportunities for getting a discount if you act early. Like if you are planning to come next year I believe you can buy your pass on the last day of con a whole year in advance for a cheap price. There are also sales on certain days and up to certain times. I bought mine before Christmas and it was like in the 30s I think...

Not so much at the convention center. Cause it's got a very Hawaiian and Asia theme to it when you aren't faced with the modern architecture. Now if we really wanted to wander then closer to downtown Honolulu are a lot of old buildings like Iolani palace which would be great. At the Pandora Hearts photoshoot I'm hosting tomorrow we are going to head there, the convention center, and Kapiolani park to take photos but we'll have drivers. Actually right now I'm preparing food for it since the theme is a tea party and so I'm making rainbow cake and cupcakes and stuff. Bringing my tea set and crossing my fingers that Echo will be able to make it. If things go well I'll try and post a few pictures.

Woah cool! Sadly I don't think I can go anywhere out of the convention center. I really wish I could but my parents don't think it's safe... But I really wanna go with you and everyone over there! ):
I'm taking my pictures tomorrow as well but I don't have a spot that looks old and stuff. The best thing I can get is grass, which isn't very helpful. I don't live by any mansions or anything lol (but that'd be cool). What do you think would be a good background that's simple? Like for a "naturey" background all I can think of is like vines and thick big trees in a forest. Erg. I don't live by any of that but I think my friends do. :/

Hm, well there is that scene where Gil and Oz first find the watch, and then return to later when Oz is back out from the abyss. That is very naturey. It is an Oz and Gil scene though... Well as long as you like where you are and how the photos turn out that's what matters most.

Yeah I didn't think we'd be able to do anything like heading over to Iolani. Most I could see is maaaaybe heading over to Ala Moana beach park and even that is a little bit of a walk so not likely. I'd just stay at the con and get what shots we can on the roof. They have the pond, this little jungle area, and some tables which might be full so we might not be able to use.

Hope your photos turn out great and I'll be sure to tell them Maui Alice says hello! (Which is ironic since both our Alices are going to be late, heeeh.)

Mm, today was a blast but I'm too tired to upload photos. WolfGirl though said she was putting up pics tonight so if you are watching her deviantart you'll probably see some.

As to your wig, you have to pin the wig to your wig cap using bobby pins hooked into the netting. Least that's what our Alice does for all her long wigs. I avoid them like the plague because they are so hard to maintain. XP But yeah pins, also making sure you have it tightened enough using the straps. It shouldn't feel like it is squeezing your head to death but try to see if you can obtain some snugness. But yeah more likely the problem is the weight of the wig dragging it back which you use pins to fight against.

Also after the fun of the photoshoot some of the members of my group who never responded to me saying there was going to be Pandora Hearts at Kawaii Kon started asking me about it. So yeah maybe a few people will dress up, not sure. Meantime everyone wants to some time after KK organize another since we couldn't get all the shots we wanted at the different locations. (We only got a few at Iolani and none at the convention center cause someone had booked the entire thing to the point we weren't even allowed to walk around.)

Check it out! They're not really good or anything but they're the best that I could pull off while I don't have any good settings, I don't have my scythe, and there's no one with her to make some sort of scene.

I'm good with anything! And your photos look amazing, don't be too hard on yourself for not having special backdrops or anything. Important thing is how you look more so than how the background looks and you look absolutely great! Glad you were able to get your wig to stay on!
