What do you want to see or buy at future KKon Dealers room?

Postby buddah » Sun Jul 19, 2009 11:38 pm

In future kons, I hope to see more anime/manga series-related bath towels, even hand towels sellers. They had in the Dealers alley , back in 2008, but for some reason this past 2009 Kkon, the vendors did not bother to sell those particular type-of items..I'm bummed out about that.

I was bummed out that the Maid Cafe was not at KKon 2009...but I'm estatic about them coming again at the next kkon 2010 8)

not to really bash anything . but the toki-doki hand bag sellers this year, to me just bugged me..it seem like the kind of things you would find at swap-meet, so it probably aint the "Real Deal", though numerous will disagree with me..., plus many of the products sold in the dealer room this past kkon09 fit no way or form into the description into anime/manga/game related- products...so all in all, the dealer room just bugged me a bit...just wanted to share those few little thought bubbles...

so enuff about me, what about you what types of products you want to see and buy in the kkon dealer room in the future??...and or if they already exist, what products and services you want to see more of???..im really curious on this one dudes & dudettes...

C'mon share your thought bubbles with me!!?/

{yay bubbles of thought}> ^^

Yes, the dealers' room this year did seem a bit odd for some reason, probably stuff that you mentioned - it also felt a bit umm empty, which may have been a good thing to keep the traffic in the room down.

I just want to buy special music that I can't seem to find anywhere else. And magical anime things!

Please note: If you are looking for specific items from a certain show here is a hint on whether or not any dealer would have it. Is it being aired in Japan now? If not then there will not be any new merchandise which would leave only collectible items being available. Generally these items will cost you more money.

Hah, Toki Doki swap-corner reminded me or China Town. It wasn't too bad, though it really gave that feel.

The 2-dollar poster pile was a real steal for a lot of my frinds.

I personally want to see more of the puchi puchi-type items. I was very pleasantly surprised to see that they had the moe puchi puchi this year. <3 I hope they come back next year along with things like the infinite soy bean popper, infinite beer can, Mugen Peri Peri, and Tuttuki Bako. <3 Cute little toys.

Also, more plushies, por favor. I was shopping for presents for my friends, but I found only two or three vendors with boxes of plushies, and all of them were pretty much the same. ._.;; Not to complain, but that's my two cents. :3
Thank you SO much for supporting Dango Dewdrop in our last year together!

Seeing as this year will be my first KKon, I can't really say what I'd like to see more of, but I'll throw in my opinion anyway!
Plushies are amazing and I love buying them!
Puchi puchi stuff is equally awesome and if they had things like that at the Kon I would be more than likely to also buy large quantities of them.

Ummmmmm...

That's it, I think.

Oh, and for future reference, thoughts are better kept in bags or boxes. Bubbles are far too temperamental to be of any real use.

~~ Man, I never have enough money to buy stuff at the dealers room. I would hope for slightly cheaper stuff... cause man.. I would love to buy the shirts there.... If not hohoho I shall somehow get money. Hmm.. what else though? Cute things in general- charms and what not-- I know they have those around too... but anyway I end up buying stuff from AA instead ...

I have no idea how I'm going to manage to get money for the dealers room.

And I also agree on the inclusion of cute things.

More or outright, a vintage collector's booth. I didn't get to grace the dealer's room much as a I should have, so I missed out some things.

Could invite or have a dealer who's specialty is vintage collectables (Pre-1970's or older). Maybe some special guest dealer directly from Japan?

As geeky as I am, I'm looking for a 1972-73 Kikaida 01 action figure w/ double machine (aye, I could find that online, but it's more fulfilling to receive it from the dealer themselves, perhaps telling me a story on how he or she was able to obtain it from the original owner who, as a child, was there when it first came out, and what a crazy mad rush for parents to get one for their kids before the supply ran out). :)

Though, I have to say, it's gonna be a challenge, also in needing to try to save up, because most of my financial clout will be invested into my one to multiple costumes I will be building for Kon 2010...

Costume completion, or primo action figure purchase...? :?

*Sigh*... decisions, decisions... :P

I like your icon btw, those Fall Out cartoons are always so awesome and cheery even though the topics they are assigned to might not be. And to quote your wise saying, their "awesomeosity" is unquestionable ^^

Something actually on-topic for once, I'm actually happy sifting through whatever the dealers have to offer. It won't bother me if they don't have something I want, after all, they're not obliged to bring any specific items are they?
Still, no harm in saying what you'd like. (or maybe there is??)

As cool as that would be, that kind of stuff would be expensive.

The thing that I want to buy most are doujinshi. I tend to spend most of my time looking at those than I do anything else, though plushies are always fun to look through as well.

You would be totally surprised at what most serious, diehard collectors will spend to get certain collectable items here in Hawai'i.
I knew a gent who spent well over $300 to nearly over a grand, maybe more, in just to get the complete sets of '70's era Ultraman, Mazinga, Getta Robo G,and Spaceboy products!

But I don't think anyone @ Kawaii Kon has ever spent that much. Due to personal spendature, or never had a serious dealer of that caliber in our mists.

I don't know about that, there have been a wide range of vendors in the last five years. Unless you dabble in all the different items that have been offered, you wouldn't know what the price tag of certain items can reach. I know I spent a decent chunk on an anime cel the first year, and there were more expensive ones in the batch, I just wasn't interested in them.

Also, let's try not to quote more than one person back in your replies. I'd refer you to the guidelines, but those aren't accessible. ^^;

I'd like to see more dealers selling cosplay :)
I mean, Naruto costumes are cool and all- but if that's all your selling... it's kinda... "Eh."
(plus the groups of "random Akatsuki people" and "random Bleach-Squad-people" seem to be expanding hugely e__e'')
But cosplay costumes are actually time-consuming and not cheap :\ So I can understand how they might be more tedious to bring to a dealer's booth...

People come back to the hotel and are like, "We will cosplay!"
And we get all excited, "Really?"
And they rummage through a paper bag and produce a cat-ear-cap, and enthusiastically exclaim, "This counts, right?"

And we're like...

"Oh really?"

I completely agree. I would like to see cosplay vendors at a future Kawaii Kon. Even cosplay accessories would be welcome since the only accessories for cosplay that I've seen are things like Naruto headbands... I can only take so much Naruto and Bleach cosplay accessories so it would be nice to have someone selling other types of cosplay accessories (such as shoes and armor).

Though I must agree that it would be hard to bring a dealer like this to Kawaii Kon. It would be expensive to buy a cosplay and most people don't have that much money to shell out for one item.

mm

[ In the realm of cosplay articles, I think it would be really difficult for someone to offer specific things, seeing that cosplay can have a number of different elements to it. Isn't it better that they just have generic accessories available such as the bunny ears/naruto headbands? (I'm not a real big fan of naruto headbands btw.)
Keep in mind that a lot of people who have not cosplayed before go to Kawaii Kon and these generic cosplay pieces can be a good way to get them into the spirit of the anime convention.

Just an idea...

Is it wrong that despite the flood of them, I still kinda dig the Naruto headbands? o.O;

Back closer to the topic, I agree on cosplay accessories. I could totally see myself spending money on that sort of thing.

There are some of us who may, if they're lucky enough to find it, the Dealer/vender's specialty is that particular character they are cos playing, or just so happens to have general items /accessories you could use/add onto your costume, you could get it right there at the 'Kon itself. No real guarantee that you will find that perfect or matching skirt/ handbag, or that just the right sized Bushido blade for your costume (funny... to see a dealer selling only a whole assortment of swords, axes, and blades like a medieval blacksmith right out of a Mel Brook's movie, in the dealer's room. "Get your swords, get your axes, katanas... Hurry! Hurry! While supplies last! Hurry! Hurry!"), but it might be good knowing if you need a back up prop, you maybe able to pick one out without leaving the premises to travel all the way to Ala Moana, Don Quixote's, or even that costume shop clear across to the other side of town.
I've witnessed several cosers improvising and doing something like that just to get their costume completed in some way.
For of course it likelihood will not be that convenient. If it was, where's the challenge in that?

Huh... or maybe even have an "on site seamstress" who can help sew up that little rip or unraveling hem in your costume. for a small fee, or at no charge. That would be nice. If the owners would approve having one or two on site to do that as volunteers, great. No pay, but the PR would be tremendous. :)

I favor that kind of convenience. My "Mystery Kaijun/kaijin" is still under experimental design testing, meaning, the material I will be using still needs to be determined for strength. And since I'm not a total whiz at sewing, I might need assistance and a back-up plan of sorts just in case my costume decides to go south on me by coming apart at some seam.

Hopefully, not at some seam on me that would be really totally embarrassing...

In my opinion, the dealers room did seem like somewhat of a letdown, especially when alot of the dealers had pretty mainstream anime stuff you can pretty much find at Toys N Joys.
But with the economy the way it is now, it just seems like the dealers are losing money and/or not making enough of it by being there.

Because seriously, how many people on average actually buy full cosplay wear at the convention? I would guess a very minimal few. Even though the products are really cool and badass and/or cute, it's not like everyone has alot of money to spend too.

To stay on-topic, I would rather see less Toys N Joys-mainstream-products like keychains and badges and patches and more unique anime stuff. Stuff that you can't usually find. Having the nemu*nemu guys there was really great, especially for those younger con-goers that don't have credit or paypal and can't buy those kinds of things online.
Honestly speaking, other than a few of those $2 posters and some nemu*nemu stuff, I didn't buy anything else from the dealers room.

speaking of cosplay accessories...
be really cool to have a vendor in the dealers' room sell NANA anime/manga stuff ( I know its old-school already..but you got to admit the accessories are just unique)... by NANA stuff.. I meant like jewelry & things that the NANA characters' wear, e.g. the Vivienne Westwood fake/replica stuff, e.g. Nana's ring, Shin's necklace, Nana's infamous strawberry glass, etc.

At the dealers room, there was one vendor that sold the NANA Blackstones' Band T-shirt, its was pink, so I was like (ugh!!), I've been looking for the red shirt one instead (sadly, didnt know where to look in Japan, when I was at Akihabaraa few summers back) ..so i guess what I'm trying to say is that the sellers in the dealers room should have more variety instead of a one-item,one-type sort of thing

I was surprised that they weren't among the tons of keychains and stationary- but Fanime was selling a lot of Mameshiba stuff this year, it would be cool if we could do that too :D (weird that this is so specific? -___-'')

AnnieMei actually had a table in Artist Alley set up for this.

And NANA, while I love it dearly, it's kind of old, hence the one item thing.

I would love to see more cell phone charms!

Crimey! Really? How could I had missed that? Maybe I wasn't looking in the right place when I was in there!

That's good to hear. Is AnnieMei going to have that again next year? Great. Now I don't have to worry too much about getting a quick "stitch up" should my now shoddy sewing skills don't pan out. :P

Hope that moment doesn't occur right before I go up for the cosplay costume contest. I may have to get the fix done right on there because my "mystery costume" is made in such a way that I won't be fast enough to change in an' out of it in time! (Nah! Just kidding! Really, let's hope that doesn't happen!)

Oh yeah, another thing that would be awesome to see would be more stationary/school-type items. Pencil cases, pencils, note books, etc. I was really looking for a new pencil case for school this year and couldn't find any. ^^;; Maybe I was too late and they were all taken.

Hmmm... you've just gave me a thought here, Dango!...

Wouldn't be cool if the owners had "Kawaii Kon pencils or pens"? Each having a cool etching on it, eye-catching colors, the pitch theme, small design, and the date, "Kawaii Kon, 2010". I would jump on that. Collect one from each year. When the anniversary arrives, the previous pens/pencils will have a code when matched up, stating a secret message, design when laid out together, etc, etc. that's far-fetched, but thinkable. Kawaii Kon charms sounds good too. they would be the mascots, '09 dates, etc.
That would be nice to get and keep as a memorable keepsakes. :)

while i must say that the dealer room was okay at best...i would love to see the room more filled...whether they be returning vendor or some new ones...i wouldn't mind...

i would love to see more vender selling manga (typically not the ones you can buy from borders/barnes and noble)...well translated manga...okay okay...YAOI MANGA like from "dramaqueen"...there was this vendor way back in the earlier days of the kon i believe when the con first went to the convention center...umm in 2007 i think...i bought one of their manga and didn't buy the other and i can't find it anyway except online and thats the scans...

i miss the loud vocalization of the Yaoi guy...i think in reguards to that i knoe that the kon is a family event...but those that bring their kids should be aware of the going on of the kon...maybe have a parental disclimer input somewhere when registering or on the brochure...indicating that while some going on's in the kon is family oriented please be advise that goers of the kon and/or vendors are in no way blah blah blah crap...you knoe....trying to keep everything under parental guidence is hard enough as it is when majority of the kon attedee are without their parents anyways...

i would like to see the maid/butler cafe back...i think they are for next year...so YAYs

Oh i would REALLY like to see these people come...mkay at this past year at the honolulu festival at the convention center...there were these people with i think the Japanese cultural center...that what holding a photo shoot...in where you are able to dress in a yukata or a kimono for both men and women and have your picture taken all for a fee...i thought that was SO COOL...what way to experience the japanese cultural...i would love to see them attend...

more charms and trinkets are a plus...i miss the vendors that was selling the gloomy bear stuff...

if possible a vendor that sells dolls...like Volks dolls...mkay maybe not that expensive type of ball-jointed dolls...but some cheaper dolls would be nice...always wanted one myself...just to have one really...

Ah- also, the year before last there was a contacts booth (maybe there was one last year, I might not have seen it e___e'') but after seeing that I really wanted to buy some, and couldn't because the booth didn't return! T___T It seems like they did well with selling a lot of contacts (since it is hard to ship-in such small items from outside companies to our cosplayers here?) But I'd love it if they appeared again next year! :)

I can't quite remember the discussion, but there was a thread somewhere about this. Since all of the old threads are basically inaccessible, I can't pull that up for you, so we're going to go by what I remember (has horrible memory).

In short (from what I remember) they weren't supposed to sell contacts without asking for a prescription, which in doing so leads to trouble. So... yeah...

Sorry I'm not much help on this, but someone might correct/confirm this later. But that's sort of the gist of it. ;;>.>

There is a problem that has arisen that may prevent the contacts dealer from returning to our show. The problem revolves around questions with state and federal laws governing contacts sales.

a bigger room and a cheap cosplay store for them last minute cosplayers. I hope to see the dealer's room improved next year, this year seemed a little like um... you know, not really awesome-like. i hope next dealer's room has a bigger selection of stuff and more room so we wont have to say excuse me all the time. cuz im a little shy to say things like that to other people. im saving up money by working at Borders so i can get stuff i want like hats, cosplays, collectibles, manga, anime DVDs, swords, darn... im saying stuff they'll be selling anyway, but... yeah.

Ah~~
Come to think of it, one of my friends who purchased contacts from them complained about them irritating her eyes :\
Maybe not that specific dealer- but I'd like to see a good contact dealer at the next Kon :)

they had a contacts store? i should've spent more time at dealer's room sincr, but i spent most of the kon at the video games. im still ashamed of when i got owned by that banshee when i killed the guy. when everyone said "OHHHHHH! Who just got owned?"

I always wondered... Do they make contacts for people that have 20-20 vision? Just to look cool 'n stuff, that is.

Not that I would wear them all the time, I don't want to mess up my eyes by wearing them too long.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can answer this ^^

@Abunai

There was a coser that talked about different kinds of contacts- I think she got a red contact with the 6 character at it's center instead of a normal space for you to see out of- and couldn't see a thing out of that eye because of it. I mean, she was just fine afterward- but those kinds of special contacts have the same effect of wearing an eye patch; when you take it off/out, that eye will probably be blurred for a while afterward until your vision adjusts... ( I swear- when I took my eye patch off after a full day of wearing it at Kon, I was pretty blind in that eye for an hour O.O''')

But the "normal" contacts are easy to see out of, and shouldn't alter your vision because they have a "space" where your pupil will show and be able to do it's job :)

So, just making sure, they make contacts that are just for show right?

Meh, something else that popped into my mind as something that could return for next year.

The people that sold only Ghibli Studio items. Like the Totoro bags and Gigi organizers. That stand was made of so much love. <3

I think... two or three years ago there was a group who made fleece animal hoodies and hats. I thought they had a really cute stuff and I'd like to see them again. :3 [Actually, I was reminded of it because the Mechahawaii store that had a few hats on display in their window.]

Figures would be nice to see too. I was looking for a few and couldn't really see any. Or maybe there were.... and school is destorying my happy memories...
Thank you SO much for supporting Dango Dewdrop in our last year together!

They do make non-corrective (or "plano") contacts, but federal law still requires a contact lens prescription in order to buy a pair.

you'll have to contact the makers of the contacts to see if they have it up to that prescription. for the Sharingan contacts, i recommend 9mmsfx.com . They have contacts availalbe in various powers

I forget, was there anyone selling cels at this year's Kon?

Seemed all the cool stuff was happening in the Artist's Alley.

Maybe the Dealer's room should be shunk and the Alley expanded.

Yes, there were a few cels for sale but no one looked at them. :P

Sadly, there really aren't enough cel collectors here, but it'd be thrilling to see a cel dealer in the room.
