What will you pay $X for?

Postby Dango! » Wed Mar 24, 2010 7:33 pm

As the title says, I'm trying to get a feel for what exactly people feel is a "reasonable" price range for things bought in AA. Of course I understand that everyone has their own level of artistic skill ranging from so-so to godawesome and that everyone doesn't provide the same type of products, but generally, how much are you willing to pay for things in AA? Prints, buttons, accessories, and the like.

IE. I'd pay, at most, 7 dollars for a print (depending on how many backflips it can do and whatnot) and I'd pay about 5-7 dollars for charms and accessories, but I'm willing to pay up to 10 dollars if it's something I really want. For commissions, I probably wouldn't spend more than 15 dollars, but most likely keep my price range at around 7-10-ish dollars. I never pay more than $2 for buttons, but I try to buy buttons that are about $1 if that's even possible to find anymore.

I'll pay up to $2 for regular sized pins/buttons, but if someone had a really big one, I'd probably pay 3. Prints I can splurge on. I usually won't pay more than $5 for a non-fanart drawing, but I will buy them. Fanart, depending on the size, I can go past $10, but only for something large-ish. Like, small poster size. I've paid up to $20 for commissions. If the art displayed on the table is awesometastic-droolicious I may go higher.

Craft stuff: I haven't seen much of it, and the things I have seen have been too expensive for me. Hopefully craft items will drop in price just a tad.

For mine it all depends on many factors such as time and effort spent, quality, rarity, etc.

Quality is a big factor. I'll pay up to $10 for a nice picture. It might be a good idea to figure out how much it cost to make each item, your expense for the convention, and your projected sales. It might be easier to see how much you need to sell them for to break even.

I suppose just ask yourself how much are you willing to pay and also how much money+time you put into it so that you can make a profit.

For a print (8.5 x 11) I would pay $7 - $10 depending on the quality
Book marks that are laminated (possibly around 2 x 4.5) I would pay about $2-$3.
Buttons/Pins I would pay around $3-$5.

I've noticed though that a lot of artists make a good chunk of their money doing commissions. You could possibly charge $6-$9 (black+white)/$9-$12(colored) or so on a 5.5x8.5 sheet and maybe $12-$15(black+white)/$15-$20(colored) on a 11x8.5 sheet You should also use card stock paper, or just something other than computer paper. It is also easier to draw with pencil and markers on card stock or manga paper and I'm sure the customer is willing to pay a little extra if the commission is on better paper (and possibly in a sheet protector).

Oh Oh I really want to know,
how much would you[or anyone] pay for a trading card?

It's not exactly a print? or is it? is it a tiny print? Lol i'm going to try to get a table next year with my friend xD And I want to sell artists trading cards, i'm making oc and fanarts. I was thinking 50 cents each. I would sell the orginal traditional cards for 5$ I don't like parting with my 'orginals' but I think it's cooler to have an original then to have a print copy. Me and my friend were also going to sell post cards, general cards, keychain thingies and fun. :D we're going to start getting ready for it this summer and share a whole table :3
