Attendance numbers?

Postby animatsuri » Mon Apr 19, 2010 12:18 pm

I don't remember hearing it at the closing ceremonies, so I'll ask here: How many attended this year?

KITV missed by a mile with their article. Even the first year at the Ala Moana Hotel was close to 2000.

The article is closer to correct then you think. They said 1,000 people were in attendance at closing ceremonies on Sunday. They were not talking about the overall con attendance numbers. ^_^

I got that last bit, but it made for a poor headline.

Yayz! Saiyan! Me 'sa Mario on the newsa tube too! (and, if you look carefully to the left, you can see our club badge, The "LGC"! BOOYAH!)

Funny thing, though... I called them about the Kon on Wednesday, and they weren't sure if they could do a news story on the event...okay... whatever... (the Station Producer is a friend of mine at KITV said to let the reporter's desk know about it)

"Lightsabers"? does it look like any of the anime characters weld a "lightsaber"? :?
Sorry Pamala Young, but that's a totally different universe ( though we did have a "Darth Vader" in attendance on Saturday, w/a lightsaber).

Oh, well, as long we are on the "not politically correct here":

To be fair, there were some Star Wars characters wondering about.

There was a Kaito with a blue lightsaber running around. :'> [Or well, he had one and his AA table was right across from ours so he kept playing with it, lawls. XD]
Thank you SO much for supporting Dango Dewdrop in our last year together!

Indeed. Most of those Star Wars cosplayers are my mates from the 501st, an international/worldwide authentic costuming group here in Hawai'i, the chapter is called the 501st Legion Pacific Outpost, that's including the Darth Vader, who was going around on Saturday taking photo ops. He, another Sith Lord, and a Jedi are the only one characters in the Star Wars Universe who possess a light saber, Imperial Stormtroopers, only arms(laser) weapons.

A Kaito and a Lightsaber mingling with each other?! Unacceptable! JJK! Forgive me, I'm just being "politically correct" again... no prob, but she should've said a "Samurai sword", instead of a "Lightsaber". She made Kawaii Kon sound like a strictly Sci-Fi convention, not anime.

Ok... I'm done nit-picking... my bad... sorry about that...

Anyways, best to say, the numbers on attendance went up, and hopefully it will continue to do so, so... ROCK ON, KAWAII KON!

Woah thats too bad that the attendance figures dropped. First time in Kawaii Kon history ther was a drop but like the other post said, pretty good considering the economy. Also last year, Kawaii Kon was on a 3 day weekend on good friday and easter which can be the reason that the numbers were higher.

A 3 day membership counts as 1 person. Our total attendance does not include vendors, staff, industry or our guests.

It went up by 398 attendees from 2009. It was the second lowest increase. The lowest was from 2006 to 2007 at 315.

That is why it is important to be active on the KK website, which encourages all current registered users to keep tabs on the latest news and tips of what's going on, and what's to come in the future. By doing that, it will save you a whole lot of grief and embarrassment, at least, minimize the "Egg on the face" pwn'd, or being corrected by someone else. Take it from me, I've had my share of getting "set straight" and "Scoldings" on these forums here...

One easy way to know we are growing in numbers, either in the forums or general attendance, is checking out the new users announcement on the bottom of the the main page of the KK site. I've noticed it has been increasing, sometimes slowly, but surely, so... RIGHT ON, KAWAII KON! :D

Percentagewise 2010 was the smallest increase at 8.9%. But that's still not too shabby with the current state of the economy. Good to see anime fans here are continuing to grow at a healthy rate.

Some statistical meaninglessness:

Projected 2011 attendance based on linear regression analysis of historical (2005-2010) attendance (r=0.994): 5,551 people.

Estimated 2010 attendance based on linear regression analysis of 2005-2009 attendance (r=0.992): 5,016 people (actual attendance 2.8% below estimate).
Projected 2011 attendance based on linear regression analysis of 2005-2009 attendance: 5,644 people.

Some said that about having over 500 people in the first year. Some said that about having over 2,000 people ever. Some definitely said that about having almost 5,000 people. Give it time. :)
