Oh yes... I have returned with vengeance (vengeance? Where are you? Man, he ditched me again!)

In honor of my return to these forums, let's get the ball rolling by introducing the franchise's inaugural boardgame-themed edition!

Nominations are now open, but allow me to offer the first pick...

1. Monopoly
Oh yes... I went there. This classic board game (introduced in 1933 by Parker Brothers) has been the subject of a LOT of bad jokes. It's been known to alienate families, destroy lifelong friendships, and even cause major shifts in the space-time continuum! As such, I can think of no other game to lead off this inaugural edition!

Anyway, here are my nominations:

CONQUEST OF THE EMPIRE
I used to play this game with a bunch of my close friends from high school/college back in the day. There's nothing like going to war, successfully defending an occupied territory, and using same battlegroup to invade--and conquer--friend's land. Alliances are made, friendships broken....aahhhh, good times!

ENCORE
A game where 2 teams of players are given a word, and have to sing a verse from a song containing said word, or variation of it. For example, "baby" could lead to "Baby Got Back," by Sir Mixx-A-Lot, "Baby Baby Baby" (TLC), "...baby you can have whatever you like..." (T.I.), etc.

TALISMAN
One of the best turn-based RPG board games I've played. Players choose from an assortment of characters--each with their own special ability--and compete for the Crown of Command. Random monster encounters, treasure, armor and weapon pick ups, PvP, this game had it all.

2. Life
Oh yikes. The ONLY game where you don't mind getting THREE sets of twins... This is SO in the lineup.

3. Conquest of the Empire
Ah, you have selected an entry from Milton Bradley's famous Gamemaster series (which also included Fortress America, Shogun, Axis & Allies and Broadsides & Boarding Parties) that I have NOT played. I have no problems with this one.

Re: Encore & Talisman - I will hold these two in the prospective field for now.

4. Pachisi
How can we forget the classic board game (re-interpreted into endless variations, including Ludo). +1 to lineup.

Re: Munchkin - I'm going to veto this submission, since Munchkin is primarily a card game.

Re: Labyrinth - I'm not sure which version of the game you are referring to. Perhaps if you could include an article that I can read.

CHECKERS, perhaps?

It's not as glamorous as the others, but kids and the older set likes it, and I'm still waiting to see someone do the "King's quadruple-jump" move!

I usually post the official rules before the start of a game installment. But since we haven't done a game installment in a while, I thought it appropriate to post it up now so everyone is reacquainted.

The (1st) Board Game Battle Royale
Official Rules

Rule 1. Each selection will be allocated an initial point total equal half the number of total selections, rounded up. Once a selection has its point total reduced to 0, it is immediately eliminated. At no time may a selection receive a score total in negative digits (-1, -2, etc.)

Rule 2. For participants with multiple aliases/screen names, you may only submit votes under ONE alias (although even I am at a loss to figure out why you would need more than 1 alias for a forum like this.)
Note: This will be on the honor system, as the game staff has no way of determining whether or not this rule is being followed. All we ask is that you try to do your best to keep things fair.

Rule 3. When submitting a vote, a participant may deduct 1 (one) point from a selection's point total and add it to the total for another selection. This is known as submitting a normal (or “+1”) vote.

Example: A “+1” vote MUST read:

+ Super Mario Bros.
- Tetris

After submitting a “+1” vote, a participant must wait at least 2 (two) hours before voting again.

Rule 4. Upon submitting a vote, a participant may either add or deduct two points from a selection. These are known as "+2” & "-2” votes, respectively.

Example: A “+2” vote MUST read:

+2 Super Mario Bros.
-1 Tetris
-1 Final Fantasy

And a “-2” vote using MUST read:

-2 Super Mario Bros.
+1 Tetris
+1 Final Fantasy

After submitting either vote, a participant must wait at least 4 (four) hours before voting again.

Rule 5. A running score total will be kept for this game. Specifically, when submitting his/her vote, a participant will include an accurate score of all point totals allocated to each selection in the lineup. A Game Moderator will check over the scores periodically and issue an “Official” Score total, correcting any errors that were made, invalidating votes if necessary.

Rule 6. When two selections are left in the game, then the "Sudden Death Period" begins, and the "+2 vote" will no longer be used. Instead, a "+4 vote" will now be in effect.

Example: Whereas a normal vote is posted like this:

+ Super Mario Bros.
- Tetris

A "+4 vote" MUST be posted like this:

+4 Super Mario Bros.
-4 Tetris

After submitting a "+4 vote", participants must wait at least 1 (one) hour before voting again.

Rule 7. Once a participant submits an eliminating vote (a vote that, during active play, removes one selection from the lineup), he/she cannot submit an eliminating vote until another participant has done so.

Rule 8. Once a selection has appeared on any game installment’s lineup, it cannot appear on the lineup again unless under special circumstances.
