Are you ready for Kawaii Kon 2011?

Postby Mitsuki » Mon Mar 28, 2011 11:09 pm

Well, just like ichigomochi posted last year, I'm here to ask:

Are you ready for Kawaii Kon 2011?

Personally, I think I'm pretty much set because I decided not to make a new cosplay for this year. My previous cosplays have little to no pictures so I might as well wear them again and actually get nice photos for myself this year! I just have a kitty tail to sew since I seem to have misplaced mine from last year for one of my cosplays.

Phew, I'm glad for not being busy with cosplays because Kon falls just before finals for UH students this year...

No posts yet? XDD

To be honest: NO, me and my roommate are not. But we are confident we will finish before KKon.
I work and she stays at home so most of the time when I'm not there she's working on the cosplay.
Our only biggest issues at the moment are painting prop weapons, sewing 2 blazers, and lots and lots and LOTS of wefting so that we can stub a wig ._.;;

We're making a lot of progress so I'm not too worried about not being ready in time.

I'm slightly ready for Kawaii-kon. There's still some stuff I need to work on, unfortunately I'm worried I won't even get to them. They're very minor things but still quite a bit. It makes it equally challenging because I'm currently going through a lot of class stuff, which means no time haha.
2014:
Natsuki OZ version (Summer Wars)
Vanellope Von Schweetz (Wreck It Ralph)

possibly:
Eevee gijinka ver. (pokemon)

I'd like to be more ready then I am at this moment. I have a few things I need to do but I should be able to get them done before the convention.

I hope you get the wigs you ordered in time!

I did that in the past with Amphigory and Cosworx. I had to pay rush shipping for Amphigory but I got the wigs within two days. And with Cosworx, I got the wig within half a week. Both had great service for me. (:

My friend ordered one from China last year as well at the last minute (like a few weeks before Kon) and she got hers in time too.

I think you should be safe if your experiences go like mine or my friend's. xD

Nope I can plain out say it, no tickets and money is my main problem, this entire year looks completely like a disappointment and I am really sad about it, I hate money as of now. Sick of it cause my friend screwed up ordering my cosplay and didn't read the fine print so I only got my coat and nothing else, I chose to improvise it though and turn it into another variation of the character but that requires a seamster that doesn't require too much money, can work with pleather, and can sew without a pattern and only my explanation of it would be enough. The pants is also an issue I mean seriously how hard is it to find a damn pair of brown pants seriously! and finally a pair of heavy duty boots that's not very difficult but back to my original statement money is an issue that has every single problem in the world getting resolved.

What kind of brown pants?
Cookies in the Millani Town Center near the theater has brown slacks and brown yoga tye pants for about 30.00 each.
As for heavy duty boots, what about a military surplus store?

No problem! Cosworx/cosplay.com has great shipping. I've read online that they usually ship things out pretty fast. Plus, they are on the West Coast so they aren't too far from Hawaii to begin with. (:

I hope you get your wigs in time! Cosworx wigs are fabulous. I love the wigs I got from them. XD

Well honestly I'm hoping to get a baggy brown jean material type pants but if those can't be hit then it has to be baggy brown, as for the boots they've gotta be heavy duty stuff, do you know where a military surplus store would be?

Ack... here we go again!

Not quite, still got stubborn cosplays to finish up in the costumes building department, management duties to full fill, and aye, me too got hit near the skids in the financing portion of my progress of getting ready for KK. Because of that, I now must improvise and make do with whatever resources I have... have any of you ever in this kind of situation had to become more creative, due to lacking of funds? Not just funds, but time also? Hmmm... I wonder if that lampshade would make a good steampunk hat in just a snap... lol. I'm hoping very much I will prevail! :D

Still more for me to do for this Kon... Gotta get two dance tracks layed down for the Cosplay Theater and Animega Mix Dance off events on Sunday. The first mix will require some fancy beat blending and voice editing... Anyone has any suggestions who I can see or check out on that tech? Further more, some dance moves I need to memo / practice on or the routines will stink like beyond wealthered socks... ahhh, body an' memory... don't fail me now!

Karaoke Finals??? VOCALOID powers, switch on! One... two... three... BOIIING!

Despite all of this, I've always have had some kind of hope dwelling somewhere near me in these type of crisis, to come right in the nick of time, to save the day...so awesome, but induces hair thinning/graying, and age acceleration! Noooooo! :P Eh, you gotta love the last minute heroics! But what really supports my hope is you fellow cosplayers, your fantastic and contagious spirits, the energy many of you have, and despensing at will, the friendship that I have with some of you, if not, a kinship connection with everyone at the Kon... oh wot a feeling! The acceptance is mutural! :D

So, dear KK Ohana, hang tough, and that goes for me too... even when thing go not so "ono", just seeing and being in you 'alls presence, quickly melts and chases away the dundrums of defeat and sadness.. replacing it was cosplaying glee, and PARTY-HARDY MADNESS! 8)

ROCK ON, KAWAII KON! :D

Ay there, Prez Raijin... there's the Military Shop on Wilikina Drive between Schofield and Wahiawa, they got a bunch of older, Army issued boots, but are rather pricey. You can check out the Salvation Army here in Wahiawa, or Aiea. Better, Savers in Waipahu. What kind of heavy-duty boots you looking for? The traditional, all leather, Army boots (black), or the tan-colored ones? I think I might have an old pair somewhere... and one of my military tenants moved out recently, giving me a pair of tan boots. They're not military issues, I think, but they are well used, as the soles on them are rather worn, though, the boots uppers are in good condition.

Sorry to hear of your financial situation, I wish I could help you out in that department, but I had gotten myself in a hubbub that requires draining payments on my pocketbook... dang it! Of all times! :(

Alas, things can be worked out... I think the boots are size 9... what is your shoe size?

I'm actually a size nine, the boots though have to be up to the mid section of my shins and must be black.

Hmmm... you can go two ways:

1: If you are going for authenticity, you can order a pair on costumes.com, or Ebay, but they'll be... again, pricey. And time is short.

OR..

2: Find a nice pair of black shoes (big toed/ soled ones), get 2-4 yards of black vinyl (simulated leather, the cheapest, and perhaps thickest, for durability), cut them to the lenght of your shins to foot, providing you cut the bottom with a loop to hook under the heel of your shoes, roll/ wrap them around your calves, adjust cut to form, if needed, tape or velcro on the behind of leg. I tried that for a pair of pirate boots, not bad, but the fasteners needed to be stronger, as at one point, depending how much jumping or big time movements you might be doing, they may come loose. I remember some ways back, one of the cosers who was pretty good at making her cosplay with great ideas, Ash, had this on one of her threads, with pics... looked really good.

Yeah, it's gonna take time, and perhaps a lot of work. Also, it's not what you may want, not spot on perfect, but it's one way to go when you're on a very tight budget, spending under 20, 30 bucks, even way less. Depending how much effort (and skill) you put into it, it could look really righteous. :)

YOU CAN DO IT, RAIJIN! :D :!:

Good luck to everyone who is cramming things for Kon in at the last minute!

Kawaii Kon is just about three weeks away!!!

I can't believe how fast it's coming! I'm still trying to cram the rest of the semester's homework and written finals in before Kon. And I still haven't gotten to sew the last little piece of my cosplay outfit... -stressing out like the rest of you- @_@

Well the last of my hopes is going to Wal Mart, I might get my paycheck today but who knows and so far it's been near impossible looking for someone who can sew without a pattern for no money to cheap pricing so yeah, like is something I'm gonna need...

Regarding boots you may have find good deals on ones at Sears. I got my Ezio boots there and they were only $25 marked down from $50 since boots are fall fashion. If I recall they had more black than brown ones.

Otherwise I have these 2 styles if you wish to borrow them for Kon. The metal ones are worn in size 9's and the platforms are brand new 10s.

Damn I would right now but I'm going out for boots right now, this is for my Dante shoes actually and they have to be like a weird baby that would spawn from Harley Davidson and hiking boots so yeah I'm just gonna get a shitty Wal Mart pair, and to re-answer the question this thread is titled NO!!!

Well, we are now officially just under a week till Kon. Only a few more days left till pre-reg night! @_@

I'm finally feeling a bit better since classes are finally slowing down and I've gotten a lot of work done for finals ahead of time. I also found the time to sew my last minute cosplay fixes the other day as well. So I can't wait for Kon! ^^

Is everyone else ready?!? :D

PS: Happy Easter everyone! :3

My Scanty and I are officially done. We're going to be doing test runs for the next couple of days, but after long last we're finally finished. Can't wait for Kon!
I wish everyone else luck who are still going through that "crunch time". You can do it! ^^

Thanks... I'm gonna need it!

Not quite there on some key cosplays, the ones I will be needing to have finished for two main events, and two PSs, AGH! More work from the boss! Why now??? My home is a major disaster area! I'm swamped with debris from fursilladed work on my cosplays! The tenants are calling me at the wrongest times! Where all this beat up furniture came from? Bulk curbside pick up is the first Monday of every month! My cell phone is ringing way too often! Too much things going on! Too short on time! Getting too short on the funds!

Must press on... must get these thingmajigs finished...

(singing in the tune of "New york, New York"): If I can make it here, I can make it anywhere!

...IT's up to you, Kawaii-Kon, KAWAII-KON!
:P

OK... BACK TO WORK! *scurries back into a huge pile in the middle of the room...*

Awesome! :D

I'm completely ready for Kon as well. I finished all the finals/homework I could get done before Kon so I'll have a stress-free weekend. ^^

Now it's time to just find all the pieces of my three cosplays and gather them for easy access during Kon weekend. (:

In the midst of rushing around trying to get my gloves painted, I nearly forgot about the white gloves I need, and the black felt for my mustache. I still have the one from last year, abut I wanna make a better one. Then there's the need of something to dye my facial hair, and hoping this stuff for my head hair will work! Speaking of "crunch time":

I think it's really just practice for make-up. I know that I take forever to do my own, even for regular days. D:

Gah, I was so stressed a while ago. I couldn't sleep so I decided to check out my long orange Blossom wig. It was quite a mess. It looked a bit frizzy and tangled when it came out of the bag again. :/

Thank goodness for cosplay.com! Someone suggested using hand lotion to defrizz/detangle wigs and it really did work! Now my wig looks better and smells fruity like my Bath and Body lotion. I guess I can try and get back to sleep now again. xP
