Kon Withdrawals

Postby The Astromech » Tue May 03, 2011 2:39 am

So another Kawaii Kon came and went, along with great friends, great memories, and great things you bought or got for free.

......so who's got Kon Withdrawals yet? and how do you cope with them?
And so he rises...THE ASTROMECH!!!

I curl up into the fetal position and cry myself to sleep. You start to feel better after about an hour or two.

But, seriously, you get used to it after awhile. Year after year, working hard, sweating blood and tears alongside your other staffers, then finally realizing an awesome kon... in the end, you'll end up saying five words:

"Can't wait 'til next year."

I've been groaning about it for a while myself. XD I'm trying to cope with it by planning for next year and playing my guitar. "Can't wait 'til next year."

I'm kind of in the middle of recovering from the kon itself and withdrawals. The kon really drained me and my body is taking time to recover but nonetheless feeling withdrawals. I cope by telling myself "can't wait till next year" and "Gotta get ready for another convention in September". It's always bitter sweet but all good things must come to an end eventually.

Till next time everyone.

I was sad as soon as Kon ended this year. Because it meant that I have to go back to reality and face finals. ;_;

But I deal with my Kon withdrawals by thinking of cosplays and plans for next year. :D

I'm currently looking through the wigs I have in my closet to find another cosplay to use them for. After all, wigs are usually the most expensive part of my cosplays and well, I want to reuse the nice ones for new cosplays. XD

Perhaps Seven Seas Treasure form of Ikuto would work so I could reuse my pretty blue Cosworx wig... :3
Pending Cosplays for Kawaii Kon 2013:

I attempt to distract myself. It's a bit hard, sometimes, when about half of my outings are with my department, or with kon-goers and other staffers.

But it usually helps to tell myself "can't wait 'til staff meeting." :D

I go through sleepless nights thinking aww man, should have done this and that.....but then I open up a few emails or read a few post from the forums and think

OMG, we're already planning next Kon......hey, look at that secret information I cant mention here.

So its not really a withdrawal for me but tiny deposits until I bank at Kawaii kon 2012.

Although there's nothing quite like attending Kon, i usually suit up all throughout the year doing different events for a certain group
Thats the way i deal, and also work on things getting my current gear repaired, and updated for the next Kon. If it wasnt for the troopings throughout the year, i would go nuts!!

I have to admit that im kind of excited that its over. i honestly dont think i could have lasted another day, plus i was almost broke.

Although i have to admit that it was the first Kawaii Kon i had actually done a lot of things. i mean with past Kawaii Kons all i ever did was stay in the game room, or just walk around outside. This KawaiiKon i actually went to events/dance/concerts, etc. it was fun, but i guess my body wasnt use to it. My feet still hurt, but ti was worth it.

I have to say though that i cant wait till the next one!

Yes very true. I've come to conclusion as well. To be honest I'm so dead tired and exhausted this week it's amazing I lasted all three days without dropping dead on Sunday. But again it's bitter sweet and Kawaii kon wouldn't be as fun and special if it lasted forever . I mean I do miss it. I miss being in costume, being around so many awesome people and seeing great costumes but most of all just being able to see my friends that I've made at the kon over the years.

But you know you're right. We may have to go back to the grind of life but the next Kawaii kon is the light at the end of the tunnel.

lucky you get to do that. Been trying to find some way to do something similar but the only times i get to cosplay is during Kawaii Kon and Halloween, and maybe now with HEXXP.

I see it like this:

Thursday Night: "OMG, I'm getting my badge now, I cannot wait for tomorrow!"
Friday Morning: "WOOHOO! Kawaii Kon begins!"
Firday Night: "That was a great first day. I'm tired, but excited for tomorrow!"
Saturday Morning: "This is a best day of the convention, I just know it!"
Saturday Night: "Best day of the three, and Unplugged was awesome!"
Sunday Morning: "Damn, this is the last day."
Sunday Evening: "Crap, it's over. I want more!"
Sunday Night: "I'm sad now."
Monday Morning: "Back to real life."

Re: Kon Withdrawals

Postby odiemodie » Tue May 03, 2011 9:35 pm

Oye, this year's kon was much more work out for me than last year. I got involved with more GTs and going ons than I should, so some had to suffer, especially the ones I personally formed up myself, because of that. Too much responsiblities, and to top off the woes, driving back and forth to the convention center all the way from Wahiawa into town ( gas bill's gonna be a pill :x ). I guess I'd bit off more than I could chew. My apologies to those who were caught in the firing line. But it was overall, a stupendious colossial hot ride! We all run into blunders, but perservere! that is why I'm still getting the "After Kon Shakes"... I need a fix right now!

Ha, ha... I do have a fix, and it goes on throughout the year, just about almost monthly, which keeps me in check as a costumer. As I post this, there is one gathering up at UHM tomorrow evening, and two troopings this beginning weekend. Also, I keep tabs on the next KK related outside activities, both official and non official. And, I sometimes go to some event that is not quite Anime related, but it always ends up like it was. The aftermath is I go to the store dressed in full cosplay, and it gets the patrons going in a positive way... always a no miss situation! :D

Withraws? Yea, they're there, but long term? Nah, there are ways to chillywack them... just jump into your cosplay and take a walk down the street of your choice! Hardcore friends? Good! Join up with then to an anime gathering, or whip up your own, and get people to attend!

Well... that subsides part of the kon withdraws... nothing like it!

Until then... on the next spin at next year's Kon...ROCK ON, KAWAII KON!

Ha, ha... like your way of thinking! :)

Maybe... something like in the movie, Groundhog Day, where you can relive, but instead not just one day, but all THREE DAYS over and over, not just living it again, but doing each and every day differently, any way you want. That way, you can go see, attend, mess with every event, every panel, every guest, anything you can and want to check out! you will never miss anything! opportunities will be caught! Wouldn't that be awesome? :D

I would use that to go to the photoshoots and main events I had missed, and better yet, relive the best parts I liked at the Kon!

Two of the best parts I liked and would relive again, and do, do better at the Kon?

Jammin' an' cuttin' the dance floor at the Butishake, and striking up an improv line reading with Scott McNeill!

SWEET! I'VE FULLFILLED MY KON EXPERIENCE! :D

Just got the confirmation e-mail for next year's pass! I'll probably be preoccupied with YouTube and college though, so it'll be time before I know it. I say that, but I know I'll be checking the forums constantly.

I keep thinking of the "What ifs" of this year's convention. There were so many things that I want to do differently but it's already too late. It's not good to dwell in the past, but there's nothing wrong with some reminiscing right?
Now, I've got to cram for tomorrow's final exam X_X;

For my first year of Kon, I HAD A BLAST! Though I only attended two days...(Friday[at night] and Sunday) my other friends aren't into anime as much as I am so they kept me from going on Saturday to hang out with them... and what sucks is I live on Maui so it's hard to go to Kon and do things that you can't do on Maui that are Oahu only. Anyways, yeah, I had a good time! Cosplayed for the first time in public, got my picture taken and felt like a celeb! (BTW anyone took a pic/saw a random guy wearing a "S.T.A.R.S" vest, that was me, please send me those pictures!). Really can't wait for next year...I'm constantly looking on my facebook at the pictures my friends and I took of Kon and reminiscing of those few days I was there. sigh. Ugh! TT_TT I wanna go back and relive it!!!

My normal job is Nuclear Operator. However, I'm also Convention Ambassador (and Chief of Transportation) for Anime North and Head of Press Relations for Otakon.

The Ambassador position gives me an excuse to travel to quite a few cons in the year fostering good will and open communication between all of us in the industry.

Which job? Nuclear Operator or the anime convention industry ones? XD

The anime industry ones - well I guess it could be kon/con withdrawals. My first convention was Otakon 2003 and it was epic awesomesauce so I volunteered as a gofer the next year. Since then, I've volunteered for both Anime North (17000 attendees) and Otakon (30000 attendees) and became a staffer (still unpaid volunteer to this day). You build experience from the ground up and eventually if they think you're competent enough, you can become a department head and even more. Plus, it helps if you can assist the organization throughout the year, not just on convention weekend. It's all about volunteering - no staffer at Otakon or Anime North is paid, not even the Con Chair or any of the Board of Directors.

I suffered with a cold on Monday. And things are really boring since I can only do some of them at the kon. Plus I miss cosplaying already. I loved crossplaying Haruhi, but now I can't for another year (well maybe Halloween and other events, but those don't count) to do it again.

I cackle Madly and plan for Kawaii Kon Beach day and other Anime-related events. many of which are co-ordinate on these forums.

Unfortunately, for me, my withdrawals aren't all that great, since my "awesome weekend" was littered with personally-damaging things. Like my face. And that I didn't get to do the Speed Dating thing. :(

Not really suffering from withdrawals yet since I got an explosion of inspiration after my first time selling in the AA. XD 'Cause Art is an explosion!

Also planning next year's cosplays already. Want to get an early start instead of planning things at the last minute.

And as always, 'til next year everyone!

I'm actually doing well after a couple of days later. But that's partly because I'm planning costumes for a con in October and got one super crazy idea for next year. It's so crazy I'm not even sure how to do it since it involves me tracking down a kon safe MG42...and the armor...lots of armor...oh yeah this is gonna be fun. MUHA HA HA HA HA HA!

I may not have Kon Withdrawals, but I definitely have the Kon Flu. Seriously, I always seem to catch a cold during the convention since there is so many people in one place and all it takes is one person to be sick. Much worse in the bigger conventions on the mainland. Feel tired and stiff, and classes are pretty unrelenting.

I don't know if this is the strongest withdrawal, but last night I had the most intense dream about Kawaii Kon. It was so surreal. ^^; I don't know whether or not it was a dream or a nightmare, because although I was at Kawaii Kon, in the dream I had absolutely no money and I was REALLY hungry. @_@'

XD I had a dream about KKon too! LOL, I left ALL the stuff I bought in a panel room and when I went back to get it...the room disappeared. And for some reason, it was taking place on some huge pirate-ey ship. 0_o

Shoot I had a ton of dreams myself, my kon wasn't so good to be honest in my own opinion and on a personal level however I did miss it and I have strong hope for the new day however I stay with the samething I did last year cried for a week straight.
