Visiting Honolulu next Saturday from Canadia.

Postby sailormoon » Sun Jun 12, 2011 3:30 pm

Hi! Well, my name's Katie, I'm 19 years old, a friend and I visited Kawaii-Kon in 2008 or 2009 (long time ago :( ) and had a really awesome time, however I never really got the chance to do much of anything else for the short time I was visiting from Vancouver. I've been wanting to come back for the con ever since but haven't had the money to. Turns out I may be coming down with the fams in a week unexpectedly (and hopefully) and I'm just wondering what kind of stuff there is to do since I won't be around for the convention? I'm not a really tourist-y person. I'm from the city so maybe that has something to do with it? [/rambling]

But anyways. Yeah, just wondering if anyone has any suggestions and whatnot :'D

You should definitely hit up Ala Moana and Waikiki. They are the tourist centrals in Honolulu. You can also visit the north shore and Diamond Head. It basically depends on what you're interested in.

Well, if you're visitng O'ahu island:

There's skydiving and plane rides at Dillingham Airfield if you're a thrill seeker http://www.soarhawaii.com/.

There's the Wet and Wild water park, but I don't know if it's up to snuff with the one on the continent. Ko'olina beach and resort is a wonderful place to kick back and relax. They've got four lagoons, some really nice hotels (the new Disney Hotel is up too).

There's the walk up to the Makapu'u Lighthouse. It's got a great view of the ocean, and I loved the hike up. http://www.hawaiiweb.com/oahu/hiking_and_camping/makapuu_lighthouse.htm

If you want shopping, I'd also suggest Ala Moana and Waikiki. Other great places are Pearlridge Shopping Center, and the Waikele Outlets.

Haleiwa Town is a great place. You've got the beach close by, then you can walk over to Matsumoto's or Aoki's for some great Shave Ice. I reccommend getting Azuki Beans and ice cream along with it ;)

If you're going for some anime good, I suggest Toys N Joys. http://toysnjoys.com/

Well, I hope you can come for a visit to our wonderful island home, and if you do, I hope you have great time here.

I'd recommend looking at Oahu's page on Wikitravel if you need ideas for what to do, although you can also get suggestions here if you have any specific ideas (like places to eat, specific activites, etc.)

Speaking of places to eat, I recommend stopping by Rainbow Drive-In for a President-endorsed plate lunch.
